We’re back on track with the Tuesday roundup now and have some new informative and helpful blog posts.

Included this week are a detailed review of the PRWeb service from Rae Hoffman, more reasons you should consider blogging as an SEO and marketing tactic from Kevin Gibbons, an insightful post by Peter on SEOBook regarding analysing competition when launching new sites and finally a post from Colin Lahay featuring an interesting case study on successful forum marketing.

So January is nearly over, how is the first month of 2009 for everyone?

I am feeling a little better from my recent battle with the cold virus but I have to say its still lingering! Damn country.

On with the posts though, as I mentioned our first post is from the first lady of SEO herself, Rae Hoffman and looks at the PRWeb distribution service in detail. As I am sure you are aware press releases can be a useful SEO strategy, but doing it incorrectly can both cost you money and fail to help you at all.

A massive step in doing a successful press release is choosing the right service, that’s where this post comes in. Rae looks into the different offerings PR giant PRWeb have to offer to help you decide which one will be the most cost efficient for you.

If you are integrating professional press releases into your SEO strategy already then this is definitely one for you, if not then you should consider it as a strategy and read this post to find out a little more about how the system works.

The second blog post I want to draw your attention to is from Kevin Gibbons over at SEOptimise. Kevin’s post looks at the use of blogging as an online marketing strategy which in itself is nothing new. What is fresh about Kevin’s post however is how he directly outlines the how and why of the benefits the strategy can bring as well as it’s potential advantages and disadvantages.

As an affiliate this post can help you understand why a blog site should be included as one of your strategies, remember blogging platforms are easy to set up and maintain/customise but you must be willing to put the effort into posting on a regular basis.

Next up we have none of the latest posts from SEOBook, its from Peter and is an especially good one for affiliates.

Peter looks at some competitor analysis steps that should be taken when starting up a new website, something especially relevant for affiliates. I know how it feels to get the “new site rush” where you see a new product, get a new idea and go scurrying away to get it all in motion as quick as possible.

As exciting as it is you can’t let yourself get caught up in the moment without taking these simple steps, take a read through them and next time you have the new site rush be sure to go through this post and ensure its really a good idea.

Finally we have a post from Colin Lahay talking about forum marketing techniques and how they can be used for both SEO and direct marketing strategies.

It’s a little extensive but an interesting case study and worth reading so you can try and implement similar strategies if your site has suitable content. In my eyes its defiantly worth working this into part of a link bait strategy but you have to create some reliable content first.
